The Israeli army leaves al-Shifa Hospital at last

Two weeks after the Israeli army began its military operation in Gaza, the Israeli army has finally left al-Shifa Hospital, according to Palestinian reports on Monday.

The largest medical center in the Gaza Strip suffered major building destruction as a result of the operation, according to local media.

Benjamin Netanyahu, the Israeli prime minister, hailed Sunday night’s operation at al-Shifa Hospital as a huge success.

A “precise and surgical” military operation was described by him.

According to Netanyahu, hundreds of terrorists had turned themselves in and over 200 had been slain.

Sources claim that following the Israeli military’s November invasion of the hospital, Hamas, a Palestinian Islamist organization, has once again established combat and command posts throughout the large territory.

Israel charges that Hamas often exploits medical facilities for armed gains.

According to statements made a week ago by Israeli army spokesman Daniel Hagari, fighters from Islamic Jihad and Hamas had locked themselves in many hospital sections.

He added that Hamas was firing at Israeli troops from the maternity unit and the emergency room. He also said that they had fired mortar rounds, seriously damaging the hospital complex and starting fires.

According to NAN, the armed branch of Hamas has taken credit for many strikes on Israeli troops in the vicinity of al-Shifa Hospital in recent days.
